coming soon...
Our goal...
promote the niche products of the independent retailer
our plan...
Hubs of small towns will have the opportunity to have their merchants featured on a given day of the week
Monday--15 merchants in Town A feature their items--Tues--12 merchants in Town B feature their items..
our problem...
how do we expand this from our testing hub, to providing opportunity across the country---How best to find and vet like-minded individuals or groups wishing to help the small business owner compete?
our solution...
To connect with those very merchants we're hoping to feature---request their opinions---listen to their concerns--and incorporate their suggestions.
our dream...
To increase foot-traffic through the doors of independent and family-owned retailers throughout small-town America---with no cold calls and no up-front costs
Imagine this..
ItemOfTheDay.com
upon landing on the site, you realize you are at a local "hub" of towns, based on fancy internet magic that knows where you're located (actually, a simple tool used by many, if not most, websites). You notice the individual items listed from 10 retailers in a nearby town, one you frequent often. Several of the items are very unique--(in the back of your mind, you think.."I've passed that store, always wanted to pop in for a quick peek. You soon find yourself reading the backstory of the establishment, learning about the owner, realizing the unique items they carry.
Many items that you'll never see in a big-box store can be found at your independent retailers. A big-box store may require 200K of a particular item--this lends well to giant overseas manufacturing companies--but is certain to exclude most of the smaller producers located within our own country.
A day visiting the town with your shopping buddies is an enjoyable way to participate in assisting both the small producers and independent retailers of our country. As you daydream about the trip, coffee, chatting and cinnamon scones---you find yourself looking at the next day's agenda. Your own town!! Wow, gonna certainly click "like" for this site----my friends are going to love it!!!--hope I "like it" first!!!
Assume there are other groups of friends doing the same, each in their town---shop owners will appreciate the business--- and a personal dialogue will open between your group and the various merchants (we need more face-to-face nowadays)--maybe a "special" store-wide discount for your group's next visit..in the end, you've had a great time, and the shop owners have met many new customers.
For merchants interested in participating-
visit our site soon, we'll have details of an upcoming webinar--an opportunity to talk in-depth about the actionable plan. Please consider how best to align with fellow independent merchants in your town--solutions might be to mention at your local merchants association, downtown association etc...each hub will require a vetting to overcome obstacles such as "chain store, big-box, dropshipper-only", etc. This is currently our largest hurdle.
Initially, each hub will have a limit to the number of shops featured, due in part to keeping the site clean and easily navigable for the visitor, but also due to the amount of information we'll be taking from the merchant---backstories, product images/details and pinned map locations within the town. With good fortune and a great plan, we'll find ways to feature more merchants by enabling easy upload features for the merchant, along with great features for the site visitor...stay tuned!!!
